Profile |
An expert on environmental economics in developing countries, Allen Blackman focuses principally on tropical deforestation and industrial pollution control in Latin America and Asia. In particular, he evaluates environmental management strategies that aim to overcome barriers to conventional regulation in developing countries. He is a research fellow with the Environment for Development initiative.
His research on industrial pollution control analyzes public disclosure programs, economic incentive instruments, and voluntary regulation. His work on tropical deforestation assesses mixed agroforestry systems and payments for ecosystem services initiatives. He also has worked extensively on U.S. environmental regulatory reform, including voluntary programs and mortgage innovations designed to affect land use, and the adoption and diffusion of clean and climate-friendly technologies.
Past work has examined conservation policies in Mexico and Guatemala, air pollution issues along the U.S.–Mexico border, voluntary regulation in Mexico and India, and voluntary efforts to clean up brownfields properties in the United States.
