The project, to be carried out in collaboration with the Tulsa-based National Energy Policy Institute, will be led by a team of RFF senior researchers, the head of NEPI, and augmented by leading scholars from other institutions. Assessments of energy options will be conducted using the Energy Information Administration’s National Energy Modeling System.
Initial topics to be analyzed and ranked in the project will include broad strategies, among them: transportation policies such as fuel economy standards and carbon content standards; deployment of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles; energy efficiency policies, such as building codes and appliance standards; electricity generation from renewable sources; expansion of nuclear power generation; and basic and applied R&D in clean energy technologies. Work will also begin in domestic hydrocarbon options, biofuels, and natural gas vehicles.
