Deepwater Drilling

Domestically produced oil not only provides value for consumers who use it every day to power their vehicles, but also for our leaders who strive to reduce the nation’s dependence on oil imports. But oil drilling poses serious risks to workers, the environment, and the community.

One of CEEP’s most important contributions in oil and natural gas research came in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. At the request of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, nearly a dozen RFF experts began research to inform the commission’s report and recommendations.  More information on the results of this work can be found under Key Recommendations.
