On June 21 and 22, 2011, Resources for the Future hosted the second annual joint Energy Policy Symposium with the University of Chicago on “Market Responses and the Effectiveness of Energy Policies.”
This year’s event brought together an esteemed group of senior policymakers, leading researchers and academics, and representatives from numerous federal government agencies as well as international and U.S. nonprofit organizations. The conference series is designed to convene leading energy economics researchers and policymakers and promote open dialogue on pertinent energy policy issues.
The conference covered a breadth of subjects from offshore oil drilling to the impact of gasoline price changes on automobile purchases to electricity generation efficiency. Nine research presentations focused on the following topics:
- consumer responses to energy information and prices,
- the impact of policies and incentives on energy supply, and
- the consequences of market-based approaches to energy and emissions regulation.
The symposium culminated in a panel discussion by senior government policymakers, which offered unique insights into their “wish list” for the future of environmental and energy economics research. Conference presentations and papers are available below.
