Findings from RFF’S Initiative “Managing the Risks of Shale Gas Development”

Event Details
Sustainable large-scale development of shale gas in the United States will require a better understanding of its environmental risks, as well as the government regulations and industry best practices that appropriately address these risks. For the past 18 months, researchers in RFF’s Center for Energy Economics and Policy (CEEP) have been leading a multi-faceted initiative—Managing the Risks of Shale Gas Development—that to date includes surveys of experts and the public to identify priority risks, analyses of some of these risks, and an assessment of regulatory frameworks at the state level.
Join CEEP researchers on June 27 as they present findings from this research initiative. The half-day seminar will include the following:
- a brief review of findings from research released earlier in the initiative;
- the results of several new analyses; and
- discussions of cross-cutting findings and directions for future research.
The seminar will conclude with representatives from state and federal governments, industry, the non-governmental sector, and academia giving their perspectives on these findings in the broader context of understanding and managing the risks of shale gas development.
