As part of RFF’s commitment to research excellence, RFF promotes research and policy analysis on environmental and natural resource issues by supporting work at colleges, universities, and other institutions around the world and by connecting researchers to RFF to help formulate new lines of inquiry.

RFF has named the following academic fellowship and stipend awardees for the 2017–2018 academic year.
Joseph L. Fisher Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships
Miguel Castro, PhD candidate in agriculture, food, and resource economics at Michigan State University, for research on dynamic models of the effect of adding intermittent renewable power generating capacity and storage capacity to the electric grid.
Louis Preonas, PhD candidate in agricultural and resource economics at the University of California, Berkeley, for research on the causes of declining US coal production, on rural electrification and economic development, and on the design of randomized experiments with panel data.
Brian Prest, PhD candidate in energy and environmental economics at Duke University, for research on household response to time-of-use electricity pricing, on updating environmental policy to reflect new information, and on how shale gas has changed the price responsiveness of the US natural gas supply.
John V. Krutilla Research Stipend
Peter Maniloff, assistant professor at the Colorado School of Mines, for research on citizen monitoring of environmental regulations.
