Office of Environmental Management (EM)

DOE's Office of Environmental Management is responsible for environmental restoration, waste management, nuclear materials stabilization, technology development, and facility transition and management at the sites in the nuclear weapons complex.  The office of EM is currently being reorganized.  The links will be updated to reflect changes due to this reorganization as they are made.

This is the link to the Central Internet Database (CID), developed by the
     Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Environmental Management.
     It includes information on DOE waste, contaminated media, and spent nuclear
     fuel and facilities.

     Office of Environmental Restoration (ER)
    
ER is responsible for identifying, characterizing, containing, or treating
     contaminated sites and facilities.

     Office of Waste Management (WM)
    
WM is responsible for treatment, storage, and disposing radioactive and chemically
     hazardous wastes generated by current operations and legacy activities.

     Office of Intergovernmental and Public Accountability
     This office provides state, tribal, and local governments and other interested
     stakeholders with opportunities for involvement in decisions about the cleanup
     and closure of the nuclear weapons complex.

     Office of Environmental and Regulatory Analysis
     EM-75 is EM's headquarters office that monitors and resolves cleanup and NEPA
     compliance issues. It publishes a monthly compliance newsletter, EnviroWatch, and
     maintains a listing of all environmental compliance agreements.

     EM Advisory Board (EMAB)
    
The EMAB provides, advises, and makes recommendations to EM on a
     broad range of issues confronting the cleanup effort.

     Long-Term Stewardship Information Center
     This site provides information related to the long-term care of DOE sites,
     including a collection of reports, summaries of relevant laws and regulations,
     and information regarding DOE's national stewardship study.

     DOE Site Specific Advisory Boards
    
The 12 local community Site-Specific Advisory Boards (SSAB) provide
     consensus advice and recommendations to DOE on environmental restoration
     and waste management activities at individual sites.

     State and Tribal Government Working Group (STGWG)
     STGWG, a committee of representatives from states and tribes that are affected
     by DOE facilities, advises DOE on compliance with applicable state laws and
     regulations governing facility operation and cleanup.


Office of Environment, Safety, and Health (ES+H)

ES&H provides independent oversight and technical assistance in the protection of the environment, workers, and the public from hazards posed by DOE facilities and operations.

This October 2000 study, prepared the DOE Office of Oversight, within the Office of ES&H, details the results of an investigation of past operations and present work practices at the East Tenn. Tech park, formerly known as the Oak Rodge Geseous Diffusion Plant, focusing particularly on environmental, safety and health-related issues.

     Office of Environmental Policy and Guidance
    
This office develops DOE-wide policies and strategies for protecting the public
     and the environment, and for assuring compliance with internal and external
     environmental requirements. This site contains hundreds of reports, summaries
     of regulations, guidance, and databases of compliance information.

     Office of Oversight - Documents
    
The Oversight Office is responsible for independent oversight of Departmental
     policies, programs, and practices related to environment, safety, and health.
     This Web site contains site ES&H evaluations, site profiles, and a number of other
     ES&H studies and reports.

     Office of the Departmental Representative to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board
(DNFSB)

    
This Office is responsible for ensuring Departmental implementation of DNFSB
     recommendations regarding nuclear safety issues. The site contains correspondence,
     implementation plans, and annual reports to congress.

Office of Human Resources Management

This office is responsible for Department-wide administrative and management services.

     DOE Directives
     Many of DOE's policies and rules regarding waste management, environmental and
     safety standards, and facility operations are issued as Departmental Directives.

     Online Phonebook and Employee Search
     An online version of the National Telephone Directory, which contains headquarters,
     field, and laboratory organizational listings. Also provides access to a searchable
     directory of email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers of DOE government
     and contractor personnel.

Office of Management, Budget and Evaluation

The Chief Financial Officer is the director of the Office of Management, Budget and Evaluation, administering the Department’s financial management activities and ensuring its financial integrity. The Office is responsible for financial policy, budget formulation, financial control and reporting, strategic planning, and other financial assurance activities.

     Office of the Budget
     Contains online versions of DOE budget requests, appropriations bills and reports,
     and other budget data and guidance.

     Office of Financial Control and Reporting
    
Produces and publishes the annual accountability report and Departmental
     consolidated financial statements.

     Office of Strategic Planning and Program Evaluation
    
Produces the Department's strategic plan and annual performance agreement updates.

Office of Worker and Community Transition

This office aims to minimize the social and economic impacts of changes in the Department's activities as it restructures for new missions. This Web site contains program reports, workforce restructuring plans, and historical employment figures.
