Government Accountability Project

The mission of the Government Accountability Project is to protect the public interest and promote government and corporate accountability by advancing occupational free speech, defending whistleblowers and empowering citizen activists. It has been active in whistleblower issues at Hanford, Rocky Flats, Pantex, and elsewhere.


Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

Washington, D.C.

NRDC is one of the nation's largest environmental advocacy organizations, utilizing law and science to support environmental and natural resource protection efforts.

     Nuclear Program
     NRDC's nuclear program undertakes a number of nuclear policy research
     and advocacy projects, including compiling information on world nuclear
     weapons arsenals and production complexes, the future of the U.S. nuclear
     weapons complex and weapons maintenance and testing programs, and
     nuclear waste management methods.

     NRDC's exhaustive directory of Internet resources on nuclear weapons policy.
     It does not, however, devote much attention to the environmental consequences
     of nuclear weapons production.


Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR)

Washington, D.C.

PSR has long documented the health impacts of nuclear weapons production and testing. It's Nuclear/Security program works to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons, wisely dispose of nuclear material from retired weapons, and clean up contaminated nuclear facilities

RESOLVE, Inc.

RESOLVE, Inc. is a non-profit organization specializing in environmental dispute resolution, environmental mediation, consensus building, facilitation, conflict resolution and policy dialogue.

     Citizens' Monitoring and Technical Assessment Fund
     As part of a 1998 court settlement DOE established a $6.25 million
     Citizens' Monitoring and Technical Assessment Fund, administered by
     RESOLVE, Inc., to "provide monies to eligible organizations. . .to procure
     technical and scientific assistance to perform technical and scientific reviews
     and analyses of environmental management activities at DOE sites."


The W. Alton Jones Foundation

Charlottesville, Virginia

The W. Alton Jones Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation focusing on global environmental protection and the prevention of nuclear war or other massive releases of radioactive material.  It maintains a number of useful Web sites.

     Secure World Program
    
The Foundation's Secure World Program aims to build a world free from
     nuclear threats. It funds projects to assess the full costs of being a nuclear
     state, prevent massive releases of radioactive material, eliminate nuclear
     weapons, and increase international security.
