John V. Krutilla Research Stipend
Resources for the Future (RFF) will award one research grant for the 2015–2016 academic year in honor of the late John V. Krutilla, a renowned environmental economist who served as a senior fellow at RFF for most of his career.
The grant is intended for young scholars who have been awarded a doctoral degree in the past five years. The focus of the award is research related to environmental and resource economics. Special attention will be given to applications that seek to pursue research into one or more of the areas pioneered by John Krutilla. The awardee may be invited to present the results of the research activities at RFF in the year after completion of the work. The Krutilla research award was established with the generous support of the Krutilla family, Industrial Economics, Inc., and a number of John’s colleagues, friends, and former “students.”
The application for the 2015-16 academic year will be posted in early 2015.
The award is open to young scholars who have received their doctoral degrees since June 30, 2009.
The Krutilla research award is intended for one year.
One award for $5,500 will be made each year. It can be used for summer salary support, to pay for research assistance, or for any other legitimate research expenses. A committee chaired by V. Kerry Smith and including leading scholars in environmental economics will review all proposals.
Individuals interested in applying should submit: (1) a completed application form available here; (2) a short description of the proposed research (no more than five typed pages, double spaced, not including references); (3) a curriculum vitae; and (4) one letter of recommendation that can comment on the candidate’s past research and proposed project in specific terms. The letter of recommendation should be emailed separately following the instructions below and should identify the name of the individual who is applying for the Krutilla research award.
The deadline for applications is February 20, 2015.
The description of research and curriculum vitae must be uploaded with the application form here. The letter of recommendation should be sent by email to email@example.com with the name of the applicant in the subject field. Phone: 202.328.5020. Announcement of the award will be made in April.
The program is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens, provided the latter have proper work and residency documentation.
