RFF Press (www.rffpress.org) seeks a creative person to support its program of scholarly, college, and trade books about critical issues in environmental and natural resource policy. The Press is a division of Resources for the Future (www.rff.org), a nonprofit,
nonpartisan think tank located in Washington, DC.
Job Description
The internship offers practical experience in book publishing and an opportunity to learn about the international network of scholars, activists, and practitioners that is involved in environmental and natural resource management.
The Intern will support the Press across three important areas:

Marketing and sales (60% of time): Ensure Press database has accurate information about review and advertising policies of scholarly and popular journals. Track post-publication reviews; identify new contacts for review. Ensure copublishers and on-line booksellers have accurate and complete information about RFF Press books. Organize material to refine and update content of the RFF Press website. Assist with general market and audience research. Conduct web research to identify opportunities for bulk sales and book promotion through web advertising, listservs, and links at websites of other organizations involved in environmental management and/or international development. Assist organization of special marketing and publicity campaigns.

Editorial (25%): Contact potential readers via phone and e-mail and monitor schedules for precontract and developmental reviews of manuscript; inventory contents of first and final draft manuscripts.

Administrative (15%): Provide departmental support including a light to moderate amount of filing, mailing, and photocopying.
The Publisher will set the specific work agenda for the Intern. In carrying out the assignments, the Intern will be working closely with the marketing and production coordinators at the Press.

Open to college juniors and seniors, and graduate students.

Must have experience using MS Word and Excel. Must have strong skills in web researching, organization, and written and oral communication.
Intern should be able to commit to a term that begins not later than May 19 and ends not earlier than August 15, 2008. The Press will be pleased to receive applications from candidates who are seeking internships that extend through the 2008-2009 academic year. A stipend of $350 per 35-hour work week will be paid to undergraduate students, or $375 to graduate students. The position requires a commitment to a minimum 30-hour work week, though daily schedules are flexible to accommodate classes or other work schedules.
