Biography
Banzhaf's research has focused on nonmarket valuation of air quality and other public goods. His latest work proposes an approach to incorporating public goods into cost-of-living indexes, such as the U.S. consumer price index. In related research, he has studied the influence of air quality on consumer decisions regarding home purchase and consumer valuation of health effects associated with air pollution. Banzhaf has also conducted research on values for outdoor recreation in connection with natural resource damage assessments.

Banzhaf has taught at Duke University and is a member of the American Economic Association, the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and the History of Economics Society.
