Contact: RFF Office of Communications, 202-328-5000

WASHINGTON – Resources for the Future is one of five nonprofit organizations designated as beneficiaries of the Green Cup – a polo competition played to raise awareness of environmental issues.

The first-ever event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Capitol Polo Club in Poolesville, Maryland.

Organizers of this international sporting event are committed to increasing sustainable development and environmental awareness, and promoting the use of "green" renewable energy to combat global warming and climate change.

The event will feature welcoming remarks by Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen, and the main match will begin at 1 p.m. between the Tai Pan and the Solena Group Polo teams, which feature some of the region's most prominent polo players.

  • Global Green, the U.S. arm of Green Cross International, which addresses three key challenges: stemming global climate change by creating green buildings and cities; eliminating weapons of mass destruction that threaten lives and the environment; and providing safe drinking water for the 2.4 billion people who lack access to clean water.
  • Live Green, which serves as a liaison for businesses and individuals seeking convenient and more affordable access to eco-friendly food, products, work environments, and homes.
  • American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), dedicated to mainstreaming renewable energy in the U.S. economy and lifestyle through information and communication programs.
