Research When It Matters Most

Putting Our Research in the Hands of Policymakers

In the midst of a swirling policy landscape, leaders need trustworthy analysis that anchors us toward solutions. To meet that need, earlier this year we launched our new If/Then series—designed to deliver timely, rigorous analysis that links actions to consequences as policy decisions are being made.

Since April, If/Then has examined issues from clean energy tax credits and nuclear incentives to permitting reform and regulatory repeal. For example, our look at federal land sales described how broad selloffs wouldn’t alleviate housing costs or improve supply, particularly because most federal land is remote, hard to develop, and far from the places where housing is most needed.

More importantly, we’re putting our findings directly into the hands of federal policymakers. During the policy debate, we presented this research on federal land sales to a group of members of Congress. Democrats, Republicans, and key committee staff all took part. The common refrain? “Extremely helpful.” Impact like this is made possible thanks to the support we receive from friends like you. Your support helps us put clear, objective economic research into the hands of leaders when they need it most. As we approach our Founders’ Day and celebrate more than 70 years of impact, will you join us again with a gift?
