This Chatham House Rule, virtual-only event focused on the current state of carbon pricing in Canada, and how this policy space interacted with the federal election earlier in 2025.

Recognizing that many Americans, even policy professionals, thought that Canada had gotten rid of all their carbon pricing policy, we thought it important to prune this misconception in the bud. While Prime Minister Carney zeroed-out the federal consumer carbon price after taking office, the industrial system remains intact, which is responsible for 3-5x the emissions reductions of the consumer price. We had an all-Canada panel that included a brief review of recent political history to understand how we got here, as well as a more technical look at the relative contributions of various climate policies in effect. This included a deeper dive into how the industrial system works, and clouds on the horizon.
