RFF Senior Fellow Dallas Burtraw shares his thoughts on auction prices for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
“The Trump administration’s assault on renewable energy has also pressured the system. And much of the region also saw a bump in fossil fuel use during this winter’s severe storms.
Taking all that into account, ‘I think the market is adapting pretty well,’ said Dallas Burtraw, a senior fellow at Resources for the Future.
‘We’re playing the long game here,’ he added. ‘I take this auction result as really good news. … There were important upward pressures on the allowance price, to be sure. But we see that what came in was in the realm of a market adjustment, not a market disruption.’”
