"The think tank Resources for the Future (RFF) is announcing it is launching a major project to update the social cost of carbon (SCC) measure, even as the Trump administration follows through with earlier pledges to scrap it by dropping its use from a high-profile environmental review of a coal mining project. The three-year RFF effort, announced June 8, will update the measure, what it calls 'a critical estimate for evaluating the benefits of policies and other efforts that affect the carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.' RFF President Richard Newell said in a statement that the SCC 'informs billions of dollars of policy and investment decisions, so it is critical to use the most current and informed value possible.'"
