Kevin Stiroh, an expert in banking and financial institutional analysis with over 30 years of experience, is joining Resources for the Future (RFF) today as a senior fellow. Stiroh will lead research efforts on climate-related financial and macroeconomic risks and policy implications.
“There are few in this country who know more about climate-related financial risk than Kevin,” said RFF President and CEO Billy Pizer. “His research and regulatory know-how will help ensure that RFF can offer practical solutions to policymakers regarding the financial risks of climate change. We’re all thrilled to have him on the team.”
Most recently, Stiroh was a senior advisor at the Federal Reserve Board, where he led the Fed’s work on the risks of climate change to individual financial institutions. He also co-chaired the Basel Committee’s Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Risks. Previously, he was executive vice president and head of the Supervision Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Stiroh is an economist by training and has published peer-reviewed research on productivity and the sources of economic growth, the economic impact of information technology, the performance of financial institutions, and the financial risks of climate change.
“I am consistently impressed with the integrity and independence of RFF’s work,” Stiroh said. “This is a place that carries policy conversations forward in productive ways. I’m looking forward to working with the team at RFF to build a greater understanding of climate finance and financial risk here. Climate change is having real impacts on the financial system, and it is critical that we have rigorous analytical research to make sense of these effects and how to manage them effectively.”
RFF continues to recruit new staffing capacity for current programs and initiatives as well as emerging topics at the cutting edge of environmental economics and policy. For more information, visit our careers page.
