The Costs and Benefits of Repealing Regulations

Should regulations stay or should they go? RFF researchers conducted cost-benefit analyses of six regulations generating industry complaints.

With the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal and modify regulations that are costly to industry, RFF researchers engaged in a major project to catalogue regulations affecting the oil and gas sector that could be candidates for repeal, to develop our own cost-benefit analyses for repeal and modification of six regulations, and to compare the administration’s stated prioritization approach for deregulation to the standard approach found in best economic practice.
