Resilient Energy Economies | Public Finances in Fossil Fuel Communities: Strategies for Fiscal Resilience
Zoom Link to Join WebinarEvent Details
Across the country, the coal, oil, and natural gas industries provide governments with revenue to sustain critical infrastructure and services, like roads, water systems, and schools. When local fossil fuel production declines or facilities close, governments can face serious financial fallout. In this webinar, three researchers will present their work analyzing state and local governments’ dependence on fossil fuel revenues and what risks they might face as the energy system changes, looking at examples of refinery closures, municipal debt during the shale boom, and public finances in coal-heavy West Virginia.
