“There’s greater fire suppression on behalf of higher-value homes,” said Matthew Wibbenmeyer, an environmental and natural resource economist with Resources for the Future who was not involved in the new study.

Property values in census tracts with high fire experience grew more slowly compared to California neighborhoods that hadn’t experienced fire.
