Jesse Gourevitch Joins Resources for the Future
The staff of Resources for the Future (RFF) is expanding: Jesse Gourevitch, an environmental economist who focuses on climate adaptation strategies and the economic risks of climate change, joins RFF today as a research fellow.
Gourevitch’s work will complement RFF’s growing emphasis on the ways in which climate change affects housing markets, financial institutions, and the insurance industry. Gourevitch has published widely on these topics and on broader issues related to climate risk and resilience, collaborating on occasion with RFF researchers like Yanjun (Penny) Liao and Kevin Stiroh.
“I have long admired RFF, and I am thrilled to join such an amazing group of colleagues,” Gourevitch said. “Managing the economic and financial risks associated with climate change is among the most pressing challenges for policymakers at all levels of government. I’m looking forward to conducting research on the effectiveness of a range of strategies and policy interventions in adapting to climate impacts to support decisionmakers in addressing these challenges.”
Prior to joining RFF, Gourevitch worked as an economist for Environmental Defense Fund. Previously, he completed a joint postdoctoral fellowship at the Wharton Risk Center at the University of Pennsylvania and the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Davis. Gourevitch received his PhD from the University of Vermont in 2021 and earned an award from the university for outstanding research and scholarship.
Carlos Martín, RFF’s Vice President for Research and Policy Engagement, said that he is glad that Gourevitch is joining the research team. “Jesse is awesome—full stop,” he said. “He brings with him an incredible wealth of knowledge and a passion for the work. He can talk about his findings with journalists and agency staff just as easily as he can get into the weeds with fellow wonks. We’re fortunate to have him with us, especially as we build out our work on climate adaptation and hazard mitigation with colleagues like Margaret Walls and Penny Liao.”
