William Pate, president and CEO of Par Pacific Holdings, Inc., (NYSE: PARR) was elected to the Board of Directors at Resources for the Future (RFF) at the May 2022 board meeting. Pate, who has led Par Pacific since October 2015, joins a renowned group of environment, energy, and climate leaders and experts who help guide RFF’s strategic mission.

At Par Pacific—a downstream energy company with a strong presence in Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest, and the Mountain West—Pate is leading the company to invest further in biofuels, refining infrastructure, and ESG (environment, social, and governance) principles. He sits on several other boards of directors, bringing to RFF a wealth of experience advising organizations.

“I’m very excited to be working with RFF, which has carried such influence over the decades in the field of environmental and energy policy research,” Pate said. “Given the organization’s commitment to research on the future of energy and its importance to decisionmakers at all levels, I’m honored to be joining the RFF Board of Directors. As an active participant in the energy sector, I look forward to working with the RFF team to continue its important work.”

Richard G. Newell, CEO and president of RFF, added, “Bill has been an active member of RFF’s President’s Council since 2019. I’ve been continually impressed with his enthusiasm for innovative climate solutions, including in compelling contexts like Hawaii. He is acutely aware of the state of the changes that the oil and gas industry is facing, and he is helping to lead the industry to a sustainable future. We are excited to have Bill join our team and lend us his expertise.”

Before joining Par Pacific, Pate was the copresident of the Chicago private investment firm Equity Group Investments, where he worked for over twenty years. He also has experience working on mergers and acquisitions from his time as a financial analyst at The Blackstone Group and the First Boston Corporation, where he worked after earning a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College. Pate now lives in Houston with his family.
