WASHINGTON – Leading researchers from Princeton University, Ohio State University, and the University of Chicago Law School have been named to three-year terms as University Fellows at Resources for the Future.

The scholars will augment RFF’s ongoing work in ecosystem services, public health, and climate policy research. They include:

Simon Levin, ecologist and professor of biology at Princeton University. Levin directs the Princeton Center for Biocomplexity and founded the Princeton Environmental Institute. A winner of the 2004 Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences and the 2005 Kyoto Prize for Basic Sciences, Levin is widely noted for mathematical modeling of macroscopic patterns of ecosystems and biological diversity, and study of the interface between ecology and economics.

Anup Malani, professor at the University of Chicago Law School. Malani, who contributed to the Extending the Cure project on antibiotic resistance at RFF, is editor of the Journal of Law & Economics. He was a law clerk to former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Brent L. Sohngen, professor in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics at Ohio State University. Sohngen has worked extensively on the economics of non-point source pollution, valuation of environmental change, and modeling land-use trends.

“RFF is gratified that these three exemplary scholars will augment our research team,” said Molly Macauley, senior fellow and director of RFF’s Academic Programs. “They will add value to an already distinguished group of University Fellows from many of the world’s top academic institutions.”

The addition of Levin, Malani, and Sohngen bring to 26 the number of University Fellows affiliated with RFF. In addition to work on collaborative projects with RFF staff, University Fellows have the opportunity to visit RFF to present lectures on their research and to publish research findings on the RFF website. Each is awarded a small yearly stipend to support their work with RFF. A list of all University Fellows can be found at www.rff.org/About_RFF/Pages/UniversityFellows.aspx.
